Greetings and Welcome from Dr. Rathjen!

4125 Mohr Ave, Suite E2,  Pleasanton, CA 94566    (925) 462-3664

First let me introduce myself. My name is Bonnie Mary Rathjen and I am a physician in Pleasanton, CA. When I first opened my office, 28 years ago, I was the first female Primary Care Doctor in Pleasanton.  My specialty is Internal Medicine and Office Gynecology, and I have tailored my practice to Primary Care Medicine for Women. For many years I have been counseling my patients with life transitions such as grief and loss, and anxiety and depression, and am now offering therapeutic counseling appointments.  I  have training in guided imagery, relaxation techniques and therapeutic counseling. I have extensive experience with medications and can prescribe if desired.

My practice style is warm, kind, and compassionate. I spend 1 1/2 hours with each new patient; I do a thorough history and really listen to what each person has to say. I carefully listen to the current concerns, ask a detailed history, and thoroughly review medications, vitamins and supplements, family history, allergies, and personal routines such as exercise, diet and sleep.

For my medical patients,  I focus on preventative medicine, to help my patients avoid cervical cancer, breast cancer, colon cancer, osteoporosis, diabetes, obesity and others illnesses. I also give careful attention to vaccines, appropriate to the age of each patient, and make sure each person is up-to-date with immunizations. I offer all the standard vaccines, plus the newer ones such the Zoster(shingles) and CervicalCancer(HPV) vaccines.

I do a very careful head-to-toe physical exam and explain everything as I go. My exam table is like a motorized chaise lounge and patients tell me it is very comfortable.

I  review my findings and carefully explain my recommendations.  I love to put together the clues from the history and physical, to decide which tests will be helpful, and to solve complex and interrelated problems.  I explain thoroughly which tests I am ordering and why.  I try and answer all questions.

For my counseling patient, I offer 1 hour visits on a schedule that fits your needs.

FEES:        In order to be able to spend large amounts of time with each patient,
I do not bill insurance companies. Now and for the past 28 years, I have had a
Fee For Service practice. This means that I ask for payment by check at the time of each visit. I give you a specialized receipt with the necessary codes for you to send to your insurance company. Most private insurance companies will reimburse you; you may wish to check with yours.  I am not a Preferred Provider for any insurance plan or HMO and I am not a Medicare or Medi-Cal provider.

This system allows me to spend quality time with each of my patients, instead of dealing with insurance companies.

My fees are in the range of hair salon fees for cut and color services. Feel free to contact me for specifics.
